You Managing Your Body Not It Managing You – With Abf The Soldiers’ Charity
AdvantageGo has been a proud Associate Sponsor of The Lord Mayor´s Big Curry Lunch in London for several years. This annual event raises funds to support veterans of HM Armed Forces into employment and is achieved through the three national service charities; ABF The Soldiers´ Charity, Royal Airforce Benevolent Fund, and Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.
This year, the goal is to fund 15 veterans to participate in the Veterans’ Pain Management Programme at the King Edward VII Hospital. This programme helps veterans enjoy a greater quality of life by teaching them how to manage pain.
Although we have now sponsored the Lunch for the last four years, we have never had the opportunity to share with you a first-hand account from service veterans who have gone through the programme, until now. In this special episode of The Voice of Insurance podcast, which we support, podcast host Mark Geoghegan speaks with two services veterans, Russ Kirby and Bernadette O’Toole, about their experience with the programme. Russ is a Navy veteran, and Bernadette was in the Army.
Their powerful accounts are tough to listen to but ultimately inspiring. This episode is a great story of empowerment and optimism in the face of adversity. Russ and Bernadette speak about how the pain management programme has helped them drastically reduce or dispense painkillers, better manage their physical pain, regain confidence, and rebuild their lives.
As Bernadette says, “You are now managing your body, not your body managing you – that is a massive, massive thing.”
